A woman was taken to Southland Hospital with serious injuries after a road accident on the Riverton-Wallacetown Highway near Riverton at 7.30pm last night.
Full details were not immediately available and it was unclear if the woman had been hurt in an initial road accident, or subsequently had been hit by a vehicle after leaving a car in which she had earlier been travelling.
The woman is understood not to be in a life-threatening condition, and police inquiries are continuing.
Earlier, a 29-year-old man was taken to Southland Hospital after the ute he was in rolled into a ditch near Invercargill Airport, police say.
Police said emergency services were called to Curran Rd near Otatara about 4.30pm.
A St John spokeswoman said the man had moderate injuries to his face and an arm.
