Windscreen smasher ran when approached

Police want the public's help tracking down a teenager who smashed seven windscreens in Invercargill on Saturday night.

About 10pm on Saturday police were called to Invercargill Workingmen’s Club on Esk St where the windscreen of a motor vehicle had been smashed, police said.

A male described as skinny build, aged about 16 to 18, wearing dark clothing with blue jeans was seen nearby.

He ran off when approached by a member of the public.

Further enquiries located another six motor vehicles with smashed windscreens.

Four on Ness St between Tay St and Forth St and the remaining two on Esk St between Doon St and Jed St.

The offender has not yet been located.

Any possible witnesses or people with information that could help police were asked to contact Constable Jacob Garrett on (03) 211 0400.
