A person was retrieved from near the Dart Hut in Mt Aspiring National Park and delivered to the Wanaka Medical Centre with a suspected broken leg yesterday after setting off a personal locator beacon.
A Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand spokeswoman said the person was delivered to the Wanaka Medical Centre with a suspected broken leg.
The rescue was co-ordinated from the Wanaka LandSAR office.
In another rescue yesterday, a climber was airlifted off Mt Aspiring after breaking his leg.
Wanaka LandSAR volunteersused a helicopter to locate the man on the mountain’s northwest ridge about 5pm. Police were also involved in the search.
A St John spokeswoman said the man was first taken to Wanaka and then transferred by another helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.
Information about the age and nationality of the man was not available yesterday.
