A police spokeswoman said emergency services were notified of the two-car crash on the Wānaka-Luggate highway, near the intersection with Ballantyne Rd, at 2pm.
A Hato Hone St John spokesman said two ambulances responded to the incident and paramedics assessed three people at the scene, who were in a moderate condition.
A reporter at the scene said she could see a campervan on its side in a ditch on the side of State Highway6.
It was blocking one lane.
Traffic was using Ballantyne Rd as a detour, she said.
The road was completely blocked in both directions for some time and motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect delays.
