Establishment board sought for school

The Ministry of Education announced yesterday it was seeking expressions of interest in joining the establishment board of trustees for Wanaka's new primary school.

Construction of the $16 million school, initially called Wanaka South Primary, is expected to start later this year on its 3ha site within the Three Parks development.

It will be built in two stages. The first stage is expected to be completed in 2019, and the second stage to follow in 2020.

The ministry said the role for those on the establishment board of trustees would be to oversee and assist in the process of setting up the school, including advertising for and appointing staff, keeping the community up to date with the construction progress, and working with the ministry on the design and construction of the school.

The board would remain in place for as long as required, which was likely to be about three to six months after the school opened.

The ministry seeking for applicants with experience of school governance who wanted to be an integral part of setting up the new school.

Expressions of interest close on April 15. Information on how to apply can be found on the ministry's website.
