Ideas on what to do with a new Wanaka reserve keep on coming.

A sculpture park is the latest suggestion put forward for the reserve at the northern end of Peninsula Bay.Already, the reserve, with million-dollar views over Lake Wanaka, is being eyed up by mountain bikers and disc golf players.

Wanaka architect Ricky Booth is suggesting permanent and temporary "installations" could be placed along the bike track to create a "combination of adventure and culture" and "contribute to the pristine natural landscape".

Bike Wanaka is proposing two 1.4km loop tracks for beginners and Disc Golf Wanaka is suggesting an 18-hole disc golf course.

Other ideas that have been put to the Queenstown Lakes District Council have yet to be revealed.

Public submissions were due to close at the end of last month but council spokesman Campbell Weal told the Otago Daily Times this week consultation had been extended to allow more members of the community to share their views on what to do with the area.

"We may extend this further but I’m working through those details now with our Wanaka parks and reserves officer," he said.
