The timeline of works for the Wanaka Lakefront Development Plan has been reviewed and a series of changes have been proposed, which the Wanaka Community Board will consider at its meeting tomorrow.

The first stage of the project, a new car park, is already being constructed on Mt Aspiring Rd. Work on the lake's south beach (pictured), originally intended to begin further down the track, has now been proposed to begin early next year and be completed by next winter.

While the final design is still to be decided, draft plans show the existing car parks will be replaced by walking paths and gardens.

Development of the lakefront on Lakeside Rd will follow next summer, while the largest project of redeveloping the main beach and marina car park will begin in 2021, the former taking about 18 months to complete.
