Linz general manager Crown property John Hook said after discussions with the Lake Hawea community, Queenstown Lakes District Council and New Zealand Motor Caravan Association, it was clear a balance was needed between continued public access and the ability to manage increasing visitor numbers.
However he said it was a complex situation, and Linz was taking additional time to consider the options.
If changes were to be made, they would be publicly announced, he said.
He anticipated they would be implemented in time for next summer.
