A garment by Wanaka fashion designer Andi Regan called Kahu Kereru will be part of the display at the light and entertainment festival Vivid Sydney which opens today.

Ms Regan said she was "honoured and excited" to be part of the event.

The garment was inspired by the New Zealand wood pigeon and she believed it was a "a great fit" with the annual light festival.

"My work is made entirely of hand-dyed

cable ties and has reflective and transparent qualities when the light reflects off it,

adding to the illusion of a bird's plumage," she said.

The event runs until June 16.

Ms Regan is one of six World of Wearable Arts designers chosen for the show
