Roundabout build tendering in final stages, NZTA says

Work is expected to start on one of Wanaka's most contentious intersections later this year following the announcement that tendering for the construction of the new roundabout for Three Parks and State Highway 84 is in its final stages.

NZ Transport Agency senior manager Simon Underwood said the agency was working with Willowridge Developments Ltd to design and consent the new roundabout intersection and hoped to award the contract soon.

Mr Underwood said the agency was also working with the Queenstown Lakes District Council and Willowridge to investigate design options for a pedestrian and cycleway underpass beside the new intersection and final design for that was under way.

The underpass would connect with walking and cycle trails and the new Mt Iron car park (across from Sir Tim Wallis Dr), using road reserve and some Willowridge land.

The design would be funded by the agency and the council, while the budget for constructing the underpass was still being negotiated.

It is understood the underpass will be built about 170m east of the roundabout, towards Puzzling World.
