A partnership between Wanaka trust Kahu Youth and ski fields Cardrona and Snow Farm has given some young people the opportunity to enjoy a day on the slopes without taking a financial hit.

Nine lucky youths took a trip up Cardrona on Wednesday and "had a great time", youth worker Claire French said.

It was the second year of Kahu Youth's partnership with Cardrona, and next week others will have the chance to experience cross-country skiing at Snow Farm, she said.

Pictured at Cardrona are (from left) Caspin Orbell (11), Connor Watkins (13), Ryan Watkins (16), Lukas Henderson (13), Jakob Henderson (11), Ari Rowe (11), Sam Watkins (19), Claire French (youth worker) and Daisy Orbell (13).

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
