The Hurricane howled through Welly and literally blew the Chiefs out to sea. It was a Canes demolition as they posted 60 points against the error-ridden Chiefs in the most one-sided final in Super history.
There were stars all over the park. It started with Numia and Aumua, who were devastating with ball in hand and at set piece, big lock Dearns dominated the lineouts and was also hard to stop on the break, Lakai was rocket powered off the back, Barrett was a behemoth in the midfield and Moorby and Fineanganofo became try scoring legends and made the AB’s!
Conversely, the Chiefs can’t have played any worse, their pack didn’t show up, so you would wonder why some of them were named in the AB’s on Monday? If poor old Damian McKenzie had dived at the ground he’d have missed on Saturday night and consequently the rest of the backline were passengers.
I told you the Canes would win and half of our tipsters paid attention in Wānaka. Scott from Bayleys was the only one that picked them 13+ but unfortunately it didn’t change his position on the table.
Our overall winner was Tom Akass from Flooring Xtra and in the end won comfortably by 5 points. Big congrats mate fantastic work. Mitch from Colliers was the runner up and Sandy from Structure for Men was a couple of points back in third.
Sean from Aitken Joinery, Mark from Stonewood and Scott from Bayleys made up our midfield, you’ve got to have one because it holds top and bottom together!
Finally Red from Jennian had yet another disappointing year finishing a very untidy 7th. Even his mighty Upper Clutha side is not winning the comp after being usurped by the Cromwell Goats — but they still have the "HORSE". Which leaves us with Stu from Selectrix who by the way picked the Canes at the weekend but will be sleeping with the "spoon" for the winter. Stu we’ll send one in the post!
Thanks to our tipsters for being a part of the comp this year and hope to see you again next year.
