A Lake Hawea volunteer firefighter (right) hoses down a four-wheel-drive van that crashed and flipped down a bank on State Highway 6 about 10km north of Lake Hawea township.

Emergency services were called to the accident at 9.05am yesterday. The two men in the van received minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Wanaka Lakes Health Centre.

Lake Hawea Volunteer Fire Brigade Chief Fire Officer Brent Arthur said it appeared the driver of the van lost control as he drove around a corner heading south towards Lake Hawea township.

Fire hoses were used on the van as a precaution, he said.
