The hunter whose body was found in a West Coast river yesterday was Arthur Carson, aged 77.
Greymouth police said he had gone hunting off State Highway 73 between Jacksons and Otira on Sunday afternoon.
It is not yet known how he died -- the matter has been referred to the coroner and a post mortem is planned.
