Jock Davies (12, centre) and his mother, Sarah (at his left), surrounded by Heriot Primary School pupils, don wigs for Wig Wednesday in support of the Child Cancer Foundation.

Jock and his mother, of Tapanui, travelled around schools and businesses in the West Otago district yesterday to talk about the purpose of the foundation and Jock's experience with leukaemia.

School pupils, teachers and even residents at Ribbonwood Rest Home in Tapanui were all encouraged to wear brightly coloured wigs and make a donation to the foundation.

Mrs Davies said it was emotional and humbling to see so many people get into the spirit of the day.

‘‘We were on a real high the way the whole community had taken it on board.''

All the schools were ‘‘100%'' into it. It was a day for young and old and all of West Otago embraced it, Mrs Davies said.

She was unsure of how much money was raised for the Child Cancer Foundation.
