For international crochet day Tracy Christie (left), Amy Seymour and Viv Smith spent the day at the Invercargill Public Library yarn and hook crocheting together granny squares to be made into blankets for Hospice Southland.

Mrs Christie said people had popped in throughout the day and joined them with the craft.

One person had dropped off a bag full of granny squares she had completed at home. Mrs Christie said the blankets would be used by cancer patients.

"The hospital is a wee bit bland and it’s nice to have something colourful and handmade and patients would know that there are people thinking of them," Mrs Christie said.

Mrs Christie had contributed nearly 50 bundles of yarn for the day and years of experience crocheting.
