"Dads’ Catch Up" is held fortnightly at the Southland Community House.
Nurtured Home and Hauora founder Kayla Card (Te Arawa) has organised the meetings which are facilitated by Ewan Stringer of Invercargill.
Ms Card said after moving to the city last year she saw a need for a group to support parents and started Nurtured Home and Hauora.
She is in the process of registering the group as a charitable trust.
After collecting the results of an online survey she approached Mr Stringer about leading a group for dads.
"It's about the dads sharing their experiences to maybe help another dad who's there, ideas on how to navigate fatherhood, parenthood."
The survey also identified the subjects men wanted to discuss so at each meeting there was a topic to start the conversation rolling.
"It's just creating that safe space for them to just yarn but in that yarning, it helps them, helps their mental health as well."
Between five and eight men were attending the two-hour meetings, at present.
"It is something that I think is very needed here and that more dads would love this space but don't know of it."
The men were enjoying the catch up.
"They look forward to every fortnight ... [and] wish it was weekly."
