The Pod opened last month and is open Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 2pm.
The cafe in the South Alive Hub, replaces The Pantry, which closed in December last year.
The Pantry, was run by South Alive Limited, a company owned by the South Invercargill Rejuvenation Charitable Trust.
The trust bought the former Bin Inn building in 2016 and renovated the space.
The Pantry, comprising a grocery retail section and cafe, opened in 2017.
South Alive community development and operations manager Courtney Ellison said the public response to the new cafe had been very good.
“We have been really encouraged by the level of support we received ... demonstrating the strong community need for a place of connection.
“People have been so happy to be back in the space and we are getting really positive feedback about the great coffee and food — especially the delicious carrot cake.”
The aim of the community cafe is to provide a welcoming space rather than making a profit.
The space could also be hired out.
The South Alive trustees will review the success of the trial towards the end of the three months and make a decision around the future of that space and the cafe, Ms Ellison said.
“We will be looking at cost recovery, but also the value the cafe provides in the community and the numbers of people using the space and their feedback.
“As with everything we do, we are community-led, so the community feedback and levels of support will be a crucial part of this decision-making.”
