Get a taste of all things Scottish at the St Andrew’s Day concert held at the Scottish Hall this Sunday.
A lively concert celebrating St Andrew and Scotland will include Highland dancing, singing, piping, whisky drinking and a haggis ceremony.
St Andrew’s Scottish Society committee member and concert co-organiser Sharon Blackwood said the event would be a fun way for people to celebrate their ancestry and for those keen on getting some insight into Scotland.
"It’s just a fun day out for us to celebrate our patron saint, the birth of Scotland, [practise] our traditions and also share our customs and culture with the rest of the community," Mrs Blackwood said.
Young people will take the lead on the entertainment this year with Invercargill Highland Pipe Band member Sam Lindsay opening the concert and James Hargest College students Will Allen and Laura Kerr singing solos.
"A lot of the entertainment is Scottish-based but we do try to have a variety," she said.
Concert stalwart and performer, Steve Wilcox would also be making his regular appearance.
All those attending the event were welcome to attend a special service at First Church at 10am with a kirking of the tartan before the concert.
The church service was a "blessing of the clans and the tartans" and a chance for people kilt up.
Refreshments of sandwiches and shortbread will be served at the concert in the afternoon.
Those people wanting to win a grocery hamper could buy a raffle ticket during the event.
The concert will finish with dancers doing a massed fling.
