    Health care assistant Jo Tewhenua holds her skeleton in a protest by various members of the health sector outside Southland Hospital last Thursday.

    More than 36,000 New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) nurses, midwives, healthcare assistants and kaimahi hauora walked off the job from 7am-11pm on September 2 and September 4.

    They spent their strike time doing a range of activities including cooking pickets, candlelight vigils, food bank drives, blood bank donations, sausage sizzles and barbecues.
