The Breakers are coming back to Dunedin.
The Auckland-based franchise played a pre-season game against the Wollongong Hawks in the city in September 2012 and has confirmed it will return later this year.
The Breakers, who play in the Australian Basketball League, yesterday confirmed details of a South Island tour.
They will play the Sydney Kings in Christchurch on September 30, with the rematch in Dunedin on October 2.
The Breakers have promised a full-strength roster featuring familiar faces such as Mika Vukona, Tom Abercrombie, Alex Pledger, Corey Webster and Daryl Corletto.
Their game against Wollongong in Dunedin two years ago attracted a capacity crowd of 2900.
The game, though, was a little flat with the Breakers losing a low-scoring fixture 64-61. Pledger had a game-high 18 points.
Breakers coach Dean Vickerman said the tour would assume great importance given the majority of his players will be away on national duty with the Tall Blacks at the Fiba World Cup in August and September.
''This is very typical of what we have to go through at the Skycity Breakers in pre-season because we have so many of our players committed to the national team,'' he said in a statement.
''But at the same time, it's fantastic that the guys get to experience basketball at the highest level on the world stage. My job, once they get back, is to bring in the new players and gel them together Breakers-style, so a week away and two games back to back will certainly help this.''
