Basketball: Tisby No 1 in power rankings

Otago Nuggets captain Antoine Tisby is back at the top of the national league's player power rankings.

The 2.03m American centre has been a force for the Nuggets at both ends of the court this season.

He played a starring role in the win against the Nelson Giants on Sunday with 30 points and 12 rebounds - an effort good enough for him to usurp Manawatu Jets centre Nick Horvath at the top of the list.

With just four wins from 12 matches, the Nuggets playoffs hopes have been all but extinguished, but Tisby and fellow countryman Akeem Wright have certainly not given up trying.

The pair are the deadliest combination in the league, with Wright leading the league in scoring with an average of 23 points a match.

Tisby is in second place with 22.8 points a game and is the second leading rebounder with 12.2 boards per game. He also has the handy habit of swatting away shots with 1.5 blocks a match.

Tisby will have his hands full this weekend with Breakers centre Alex Pledger cleared to play for the Auckland Pirates. He was last season's MVP and will enjoy a 10cm height advantage.

Wright is at No 5 on the player power rankings.
