King's High School pupil Josh Aitcheson (18) played his 100th game for the school's senior A basketball team at the SAS Secondary Schools National Basketball Championship in Palmerston North recently.
"It's pretty amazing, especially since a lot of great players have not achieved that. It's such an honour to play for your school for that long,'' Aitcheson said.
A year 13 pupil, he first played for the school's top team in his first year of high school and was a certified member the following year.
"I came into the team halfway through year 9 and then made it fully in year 10.''
He was the youngest member when he joined the team and enjoyed playing alongside older pupils.
"It was pretty cool. It was pretty intimidating sometimes, because I was used to being the bigger person.''
As a veteran of the team and in his final year of high school, he hoped his experience would help the younger team members.
Aitcheson, a Junior Tall Blacks squad member, said a highlight from his 100 games was scoring 56 points against Nelson College at the tournament last week.
The King's High School senior A basketball team finished 19th overall at the national tournament and was the second-best placed South Island team.
