The Southern Hoiho are starting to find their feet.

After losing their opening two games of the Tauihi season, the Hoiho clicked into gear when they dispatched the Northern Kāhu 96-69 two weeks ago.

They followed that up with a tough test to become the first team to topple the table leading Tokomanawa Queens 80-73 last weekend.

That puts the Hoiho at two wins and two losses to start the season and they get another chance to add to the win column when they host the Kāhu in a rematch at the Edgar Centre tomorrow.

The Hoiho made a statement in the second half against the Kāhu.

Big Jessie Edwards had a mammoth shift with 22 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocks and Taylah Simmons banked 20 points and seven rebounds.

Across the floor things just started to flow for the Hoiho and that only continued when they played the Queens.

Maestro Paige Bradley showed her class. She finished with 20 points — including five shots from beyond the arc — and seven assists, and was the glue that kept the Hoiho humming.

Claire Jacobs had another strong game posting 15 points, and seven rebounds, and Bec Pizzey (13 points), Taylah Simmons and Lil Dart (11 points each) made handy contributions.

The Hoiho fought through an "ugly battle" in the third quarter against the Queens and showed their fight to stay in the hustle to come out on top.

They will need all of that when they meet the Kāhu tomorrow.

The Kāhu, who won the League in 2023, have two games this round and played the Queens in Porirua last night.

They have had some lopsided scores against them in round two and three, where they lost to the Hoiho, and the Tauranga Whai.

But they have a quality line up.

Tahlia Tupaea found herself in early foul trouble against the Hoiho, but is always a threat across the floor.

Haliegh Reinoehl is a handful and had 16 points against the Hoiho and Aliyah Matharu banked 18 points and eight rebounds.

Tip off is at 3pm.
