Three prominent members of the Otago basketball community have been appointed to national coaching positions.
Basketball New Zealand announced its 2018 coaching line-up tasked with leading its age-group teams through the Fiba calendar.
Former Otago Nuggets assistance Gavin Briggs has been named head coach of the junior Tall Blacks. He will be assisted by Manawatu Jets identity Miles Pearce, who also had a two-year stint with the Otago Nuggets (2006-07).
Otago Goldrush player and Basketball Otago development officer, Natalie Visger, is head coach of the under-15 girls national side, while former Goldrush coach Brent Matehaere is assistant coach of the under-15 boys team.
The appointments were announced by Nuggets great Leonard King, who is Basketball New Zealand’s high performance director.
"We are extremely pleased with the calibre of the coaches involved in our programme," he said.
"These coaches are the second cohort of coaches to lead New Zealand teams into the new Fiba qualifying system. We wish the teams much success and trust they enjoy the challenges ahead."
