Gore bowler Sheldon Bagrie-Howley delivered when it mattered in winning the world singles at PBA finals day at Dunedin Bowls Stadium yesterday.

The young bowler won in a tiebreak against Ray Webster after both players had won a set each.

Bargie-Howley won the first set 6-2 but Webster came back well to win the second set 8-4.

The tiebreak was quite close to start with but Bagrie-Howley eventually won the first two ends to take the playoff, which was the best of three ends.

Bagrie-Howley said he had drawn well in the first set but then became too relaxed in the second set when Webster came back into the match.

But in the tiebreak he felt he got a bit lucky in the first end and then drew well in the second end to win the game.

He will get the chance to head to Auckland next month to play in the national final. The winner of that will receive a trip to England to play in the world final if it takes place.

The world pairs was a triumph for Methven duo Jeff Nowell and Rob Fensom who took on Webster and Russell Dawe, both of Dunedin.

The pair from Methven won the first set 8-4 and the second 6-4 to claim the win.

Nowell has had an impressive year and will have a chance to win the rookie of the year award.

Covid restrictions limited the numbers of spectators to 100 yesterday.
