Kevin Archer's experience could be crucial when he competes in the 15th annual Taieri Invitation fours at the weekend.
Archer and two other members of his Taieri club side - Darrell Cape and Alistair Waugh - have played in every event since the tournament started. The other member of the team is Dick Hambleton.
The Composite team skipped by Alistair Keith (Taieri) will be attempting to retain the title it won last year. The other team members are Craig McCaw (Kaikorai) and Taieri players Tim Wood and Robbie Gibson.
St Clair's Ross Brown skipped the runner-up four last year. His team includes Robbie Thomson (Fairfield) and Simon Nyhof (Hawea).
Chris Cookson, the president of the Taieri club, reached the semifinals last year and has the chance of stepping up to the final with his team of Regan Larkin (Kaikorai) and Taieri club stalwarts Craig Forgie and Andy Gawn.
John Cross, the manager of the New Zealand PBA team, will be joined by Fairfield clubmate Blair Barringer, who was the Bowls Dunedin male bowler of the year last season.
Teams from around the South Island have been invited to the 32-team tournament that has prize money of $7000. The winner's purse is $2800.
The strongest visiting team is the Christchurch four skipped by Kevin Gore.
Section play starts tomorrow morning and the top eight teams will compete for the major prize on Sunday afternoon.
