They are both Kings.
Helen King (49) won the women's singles title and reached the last eight in the pairs.
Ben King (44) reached the semifinals of the pairs and was named the Bowls New Zealand coach for 2013.
They have emerged as a formidable force on the New Zealand bowls scene.
Ben grew up in Dunedin and won seven Bowls Dunedin titles with the Leith club before he transferred to Wellington in 1998 and joined the Victoria Bowling Club. He has won six Wellington titles.
He was runner-up to Gary Lawson's team in the fours when the final was played at the Westpac Bowls Stadium in Dunedin in 1997.
The couple came to Dunedin early to have Christmas with Ben's family before the bowls championships started.
Ben has been a successful coach with the Wellington women's team that won the inter-centre title.
His wife has won 22 Wellington titles and is his most successful pupil.
''He coaches the young girls and I play with them.''
Helen reached the pinnacle of her bowls career when she won the women's singles title last Saturday.
''Both of us have a good attitude to the sport. Bowls is not the be all and end all,'' she said.
She has played bowls for 23 years and is the general manager of an importing company.
Ben will start a new job as general manager of Precision when they get back to Wellington next week.
''Bowls is something we do but is not what we are,'' Ben said.
''We have a lot of other interests.
''We have a great marriage and a great life. Both of us are relaxed but always try our best on the green.''
At one stage, it looked as though they would both be in the national finals on the same day: Helen in the singles and Ben in the pairs.
That has happened in Wellington Centre events on four occasions. However, they have never both won titles on the same day.
''If one of us wins, the other one loses,'' Helen said.
