Canty, CD into finals

Canterbury whacked 23 off the final over to edge Wellington by four-wickets in an exciting finish to the men’s elimination final in Hamilton.

Captain Cole McConchie top-scored with 53 as the Cantabrians hunted down Wellington’s total of 173 for seven.

But it was left to Matt Henry (16 from 6) and Zak Foulkes (11 from 7) to club the winning runs.

Foulkes took three for 31 in a good match for the all-rounder.

Canterbury will play Auckland in tomorrow’s final at Eden Park.

In the women’s elimination final, Central Districts posted 151 for five off the back of Hollie Armitage’s 78 from 50.

In reply, Northern Districts lost opener Jess Watkin wicket third ball, and things did not get much better from there.

Caitlin Gurrey (52 from 43) tried to hold things together, but wickets fell regularly at the other end and the Brave collapsed to 106 all out in the 17th over.

Claudia Green picked up four for 24 for the Hinds, and Priyanaz Chatterji was also on target with three for 17.

Central will play Wellington at Eden Park on Sunday in the final.
