Cricket: Otago chasing 284 against Canterbury

Canterbury have set Otago a demanding target of 284 if the visitors are to win their Ford Trophy one-day match in Christchurch today.

After being sent in by Otago, the home side progressed steadily through their innings and upped the tempo in the final 15 overs to reach 283 for 7.

Opener George Worker made a measured 95 off 106 balls, and the late impetus was provided by Shanan Stewart (75 off 66) and Andrew Ellis (44 off 35).

Likely New Zealand test opener Peter Fulton, batting at No 4, chipped in with 30.

For the Volts, James McMillan took three wickets and Sam Wells two.
