Duffy named in New Zealand XI to play Bangladesh

Otago top-order batsman Ryan Duffy has been named in a New Zealand XI which will play Bangladesh in a one-day match at Cobham Oval in Whangarei tomorrow.

The team is made up of players who have been overlooked for the domestic twenty20 competition.

Duffy has played 18 first-class games for Otago and has made just one appearance in the domestic one-day competition. He made his maiden first-class hundred last season and has scored 905 runs at an average of 30.16 for the Volts.

Hunter Kindley scored an undefeated century to help Otago secure a semifinal spot at the national men's under-19 tournament in Lincoln yesterday.

Otago restricted Northern Districts to 195 for nine, Ryan Whelan picking up three for 36 from eight overs.

Kindley paced the chase with a fine knock of 106 from 104 to steer his side to a six-wicket win. Opener Anjas Bhogal provided solid support with 45.

Otago will play Northern District in one semifinal tomorrow, with Auckland and Central Districts contesting the other.

At the women's under-21 national tournament in Auckland, Otago suffered a six-wicket loss to Auckland and a four-wicket loss to Northern Districts to drift out of contention.

It is fifth place with two wins from six games. Its final match is against Wellington today.

Auckland is at the top of the competition standings with five wins from six games.
