Green Island top after back-to-back twenty20 wins

Green Island scored back-to-back wins on the opening weekend of the twenty20 competition to move to the top of the Bing Harris standings.

Joel Meade thrashed 55 from 34 to guide his side to a three-wicket win in a top-of-the-table match against Carisbrook-Dunedin.

Veteran seamer Dion Lobb (three for 26) and experienced all-rounder Mark Joyce (four for 30) were instrumental in helping restrict Carisbrook-Dunedin to 151 for nine.

In the afternoon game, Green Island posted 168 for six against Taieri and won by 21 runs.

Taieri suffered a defeat in its opening match, as well. North East Valley amassed 201 for five, Sam McLachlan whacking an undefeated 44 from 24 deliveries.

Taieri showed good intent in the chase but came up 12 runs short. Keegan Harrison picked up four wickets for 32 runs to help secure his side the win.

Valley backed up with a seven-wicket win against Albion. Albion scored 139 for seven, Taylor Cumberland making 44 and Jack Bagshaw 39.

Declan Sua took three for 22 and Valley produced a decisive chase, scoring the winning runs in the 17th over. Ruan Markham starred with 44 not out from 30 deliveries.

Albion beat Kaikorai by 32 runs earlier in the day, though. Jack Harper smashed 58 from 41 to help his side reached 165 for five.

Geordie Scott took three for 26 but his side could not knock off the runs. Spinner Hamish Robertson top-scored with 40.

Kaikorai rebounded to beat Carisbrook-Dunedin thanks to a wonderful opening partnership by Scott (73) and Michael Fraser (55). The pair put on 97 and Kaikorai accumulated an imposing 193 for six.

Carisbrook-Dunedin slumped to be all out for 89. Robertson shone with the ball, taking three for 14.
