Otago's winning streak is over.

The Volts posted 291 for six but Northern Districts overhauled the total with seven wickets in hand and more than two overs to spare in Lincoln.

The Volts had won their last four games and a win would have secured a playoff spot. They are still well-placed, though.

Otago is in second place with two games remaining. The top three sides progress.

Former international Dean Brownlie anchored Northern's chase with 110.

Wellington is through to the playoffs after holding of Canterbury at Hagley Oval, and Auckland beat Central Districts by four-wickets in Lincoln.
