Talk about putting your hand up for selection.

In Jamal Todd’s case, he shot both hands and one leg and a couple of bats into the air.

The Otago cricketer starting the national second-tier T20 tournament in Taupo in blistering form this week with back-to-back centuries.

Todd’s runs powered Otago A to a five-wicket win over Wellington A followed by a seven-wicket win over Auckland A on Tuesday.

He started with a brutal 117 off 53 balls as Otago chased down Wellington’s formidable total of 187 for seven with 11 balls to spare at Owen Delaney Park.

Todd whacked seven fours and blasted 10 sixes as he added 137 for the third wicket with Hunter Kindley, no slouch himself with 43 off 49 balls.

Earlier, youngster Mason Clarke led the Otago bowling attack with three for 27.

Todd was at it again in the afternoon round.

The left-handed smoked an unbeaten 108 off just 42 balls to guide Otago to its victory target of 162 in the 14th over.

Todd hit 11 fours and seven sixes against the shell-shocked Auckland attack.

Otago youngster Thomas O’Connor had been the star with the ball, claiming four for 26 from his four overs.

Todd has played just two T20s for the Volts — to go with his eight first-class appearances, but on this evidence he will is presenting a compelling case for another crack.

His ballistic run came to a halt when he was dismissed for eight in Otago A’s game against Central Districts yesterday.

Kindley made 43 off 36 balls but got little support as Otago were rolled for 128 in the 19th over.

Otago bowled well — Andrew Hazeldine (one for 21) and Lahiru Vimukthi (one for 16) had miserely four-over spells — but Joey Field hit a six off the penultimate ball to seal a five-wicket win for Central.

• The Otago Volts have made one change to their squad for the third-round Plunket Shield game against Northern Districts starting in Hamilton today.

Dean Foxcroft, back from the Black Caps’ white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, replaces young fast bowler Toby Hart.

Northern have Kane Williamson and Tim Southee on test duty, and Scott Kuggeleijn has been released to play in the rarified air of the Nepal Premier League.

Those holes are filled by Sandeep Patel, Matt Fisher and Scott Johnston.
