He may be outnumbered by Wellington Phoenix supporters, but that will not stop John McCormack cheering on his beloved Brisbane Roar tonight.

The 37-year-old Brisbane man has made the trip across the ditch to watch what he hopes will be a win for the top-of-the-table Roar.

"I haven't missed a match all season and I have never been to Dunedin before so I thought this was a great opportunity to carry on my tradition and see a city I have heard many good things about," he said.

While he was expecting some "good-natured banter from the Phoenix supporters", if the Roar won he would not be afraid to "give it back to them".

"I know quite a few of the Yellow Fever supporters and any banter is always in good humour."

McCormack was confident the Roar would do well, but was not prepared to pick a score.

"I don't go for things like that, so I'll leave it to the bookmakers."

McCormack, who is a document controller at an Australian mining company, said he was able to support the Roar in all its games because his job meant he could travel all around Australia and to other parts of the world.

"It was also great to see friends I might not have seen for a long time." McCormack was one of numerous Queensland residents to have his home damaged in the floods in January, and had only just recently moved back in.

"The support I received from the Roar was amazing."

In the aftermath of the floods, McCormack had 35 people from the Roar football club arrive at his home unannounced and do some "pretty horrible work" in the clean-up.

"It reaffirmed my faith in humanity and I will be forever grateful."

He lost most of his possessions in the flood, but gained one priceless memento in a signed Roar jersey.

"I am very proud to have it and I can't thank the Roar enough for the gesture."
