Some football observers believe left-footed players have a natural rhythm when striking the ball and this theory was backed up by physical evidence when Tech's three lefties struck sweetly-timed goals to effectively seal the result by half-time.
One of the best goals so far this season came after some fluid build-up play by Technical, when Andy Coburn traded a wall pass with George Milne, and, after receiving the ball back, he jinked laterally before powering home a thunderbolt shot from 20m that struck the underside of the bar and nestled over the line for Tech's opening goal.
The lead was doubled in the 37th minute when midfielder Tristan Prattley cut in from the left flank and hit a sweetly-timed 25m goal-bound diagonal drive.
A rare lefties' hat trick was completed in style in the 43rd minute, when Technical's Cam Parkin returned a poor defensive corner clearance with venom to give his side a comfortable 3-0 half-time advantage.
Dunedin Technical coach Mike Fridge was very pleased with the performance.
"To get through two tough games in three days is satisfying. We started strongly and put Roslyn on the back foot early which increased our confidence. Last year's cup run was special. It helped bond the team and we're currently in a good place."
In the closest match of the round, University booked another Chatham Cup fixture when it successfully navigated the difficult away trip to Queenstown Rovers.
University started the match in good form and took a deserved match-winning lead in the 25th minute when Dom Higgins converted an opportunity after a number of well-created attacks went begging.
University's resolve was severely tested in a dramatic second half, when the students had their back to the wall for long periods as Rovers pressed for an equalising goal and the possibility of extra time.
At Tonga Park, Caversham had too much precision and finishing ability to be troubled by a plucky Northern team, which maintained its shape well but squandered possession too often to seriously threaten Caversham, which won 5-1.
A double to Dave Dugdale and successful strikes by Chris Jenkinson, Robbie Deeley and Tom Jackson made for a tough afternoon for the visitors who started well, before a momentum-changing first goal increased Caversham's confidence.
Northern revealed glimpses of good form and was rewarded for its endeavour with a second-half penalty successfully converted by Liam Dungey.
Invercargill club Old Boys completed its 50th birthday celebrations in fine style after a solid 3-1 victory over cross-town rival Waihopai and will join yesterday's winning teams in the third round draw.
