Queens Park held on to beat Roslyn 2-1 to remain joint top, with Mosgiel, of the ODT Southern Premiership on Saturday.

A well-organised Queens Park controlled the tempo to lead 2-0 at halftime.

The first goal on 30 minutes was a glancing header from Michael Larsen that went in off the post.

Their lead was doubled when Roslyn’s defence was caught in possession and the ball was squared across to Larsen to finish.

Roslyn had chances to equalise when Nathan Wilkie put an effort narrowly wide, and from a corner headed wide, and in the second half had a goal disallowed for offside.

Queens Park held on for all the points despite Ben Salisbury running from deep and calmly finishing.

Mosgiel had to dig deep to overcome a well-drilled Northern Hearts 3-1.

Hearts took the lead when Bailey Chambers reacted quickest to the loose ball midway through the first half.

Harvey Stephens slotted in the equaliser before the break.

Hearts keeper Hamish Fikken was outstanding in denying his old team-mates and it looked as if they might claim a share of the points until Mosgiel’s dynamic Morgan Day finished from close range with 12 minutes left. With time up Jaxon Maze flicked a header on to Rhys Quarrell who finished.

Northern and University had a 3-3 thriller in windy conditions at the Caledonian Ground.

Northern took an early lead when Zac Baird-Hodge won the ball and played in Rory Hibbert. It was soon 2-0 from Tyler Muir’s long-range effort.

University started the second half with long periods of possession and they pulled a goal back on 56 minutes when a well-worked move was finished by Sam Clegg who turned sharply in the box to fire home.

The students equalised on 69min when Sobhan Mirzaee-Porkoli’s cross was met by Ashton Hodson to finish in the bottom corner.

Northern regained the lead with 11min left when Liam Kerr passed through a line defenders to Hibbert, who curled a powerful shot into the top corner to make it 3-2.

In added time, the students worked Liam Buyck into space on the right side of the box and it finished 3-3 which left both teams tied on 14-points.

Dunedin City Royals overcame Green Island 3-0 .

Sam Dore scored through his own net on 17min and Campbell Thompson made it 2-0 after 26min.

Any Green Island comeback was scuppered when Tom Milton was sent off before halftime.

Matthew Adye scored the final goal for the Royals.

Wanaka won the Central derby 4-1 in Queenstown.

Wanaka struck early, first through Ethan Arratia and then Daniel Brum.

Queenstown pulled a goal back when Alex Wilson scored an own goal.

Queenstown had Jorge Perez sent off early in the second half.

Wanaka's John Plimmer took full advantage with a penalty on 54 minutes, then his second goal after 65 minutes.

 • The Royals claimed the women’s South Island qualifying league when they beat University 1-0 in a tight tussle.

The game was locked 0-0 and University pushed forward in the last 10min looking for a winner.

But with the back three playing a higher line, they were left exposed when Royals’ Hannah Mackay-Wright scored in injury time.

The Royals dominated possession and territory but University goalkeeper Hayley Julian was in sparkling form, making some top-class saves.

University had periods of inventive play but were not able to find the cutting edge in the final third.

Both teams will now advance to the South Island League, but if they are to be serious contenders, they will need to be more clinical.

Roslyn claimed third with a 10-0 win over Green Island in which Abbey Neilson scored four goals.
