Fox away to super start in Melbourne

Ryan Fox, of New Zealand, assesses the green before putting on the 18th hole on day one of the Australian Open in Melbourne yesterday.

Fox stormed home late with four birdies in his final six holes to sign for a round of 65, 6-under, equal to Australia’s Elvis Smylie.

They were then matched in the lead by Mexican LIV golfer Carlos Ortiz, who was one of only two golfers to eagle the par-5 17th.

Fox missed the chance to take the outright lead, with his birdie attempt on the 18th lipping out.
