Nick Borren continued his good form since returning from Christchurch, winning the Central Otago championship with rounds of 75 and 73 in windy, wet and sunny conditions on the restructured Cromwell course on Saturday.

Borren (Otago) finished two shots ahead of Liam Balneaves (Greenacres) who shot 76 and 74 while Otago No 1 Brent McEwan came in third one further shot back.

The restructured course was described as a "monster" by some senior players and in the gusty winds and on the slick greens some horrendous numbers were posted.

Queenstown schoolboy Samson Kim gained the honour of holding the first black course record when he shot the lowest score of the day, a 71 in the afternoon.

Simon Boland (Queenstown) won the senior B title, but only at the second play-off hole, at the expense of Dong Young Kim and Moon Kim, both of Queenstown.

Cromwell veteran Kevin Hurley took the intermediate title, sinking a fast 15m downhill putt for a birdie 3 to beat Lloyd Allison on the first hole of a play-off.

Robert Good (Arrowtown) took junior grade honours by four shots while Chadol Han (under-19), Samson Kim (under-16) and Inia Logan (Under-14) won the age-group titles.

But the day belonged to Borren who is working as an engineer in Dunedin but intends to head for Holland next month, to gain some overseas experience.

He played in the top Otago quintet in the Southland Invitational early this month and it is hoped he returns to Dunedin in time to trial for the Otago team, as the national tournament will begin on the Balmacewen course on November 27.
