The Wakatipu High School golf team featured the best in difficult, windy conditions to head Otago Boys' High School by three strokes and win the Otago intercollegiate title yesterday.

The four-strong team now qualifies for the national intercollegiate final, which will be held in Hawkes Bay in August.

Callum Judkins led the way with a tidy 4-over-par 75 while Danielle Bailey chipped in with a 78 which was cut to 77 in view of the difference between the male and female pars.

Jack Turner had a difficult day in the wind but held his card together well enough to put his team in the lead.

For Otago Boys' High School, Joseph Hancock starred, also shooting 75, while No1 Jacob Bellamy came in with 79.

Hancock played the shot of the day, holing in one on the 131m par 3 10th, hitting a knock-down driver into a strong head wind.

It is the second ace for the 13-year-old who holed in one on the par 3 eighth in the junior interprovincial at Cambridge last October.

Bailey has recently switched her allegiance from Southland to Otago and showed with yesterday's score she will be an asset for an improving young women's team.

Bailey has qualified for the national Eagles final in October in which players have to be under 17 on October 3.

She should be joined by Judkins and Hancock who emerged as the two top boys in yesterday's qualifying event.
