Honor McKellar (88) and Herbie Acheson (81) combined to win the Gamble Cup at the Otago Golf Club on Sunday, hitting a nett 68, carrying a 34 handicap, in the alternative shot format.
It was not the first time the pair have won the Cup.
In 1992, neither player had a partner so were put together by organisers and promptly went out and won the tournament.
They vowed to stay together as a playing partnership until they won the Cup again.
And though it took 16 years, they finally picked up their second win on Sunday.
McKellar, a 37 handicapper, and a former singing lecturer at the University of Otago, said it was a great win while Acheson, who previously worked for the Ministry of Works, and played off a 30 handicap, paid tribute to his playing partner, saying she stayed composed.
There were 33 teams in the event, which has been around for 55 years, and features a male and female golfer, with one of the players having to be a member of Otago Golf Club.
