Despite having a bye in the fifth round of the coastal senior A pennants on Saturday, the strong St Clair team remains in the lead at the halfway stage with 3.5 points and 16 games.

On Saturday, Otago B squeaked home 3.5-2.5 over Chisholm Park at Balmacewen, to come within one point and 3.5 games of St Clair, while North Otago and Otago A drew 3-3 in a tight contest at North Otago.

A win was crucial for Otago B but the top two Park golfers had other ideas.

Kyle Geary was 3-up on Michael Smith with four holes to play but took the honours only on the final green.

Otago B looked safely home when the No 2 golfer Tony Ruddenklau was 2-up with three holes to play. But Park's Mark Collie made a late charge finishing par, birdie, birdie to win the final three holes and give his team a second win.

Brandon Hodgson, at No 3, gave Park junior Cody McMullan little chance and was 4 under the card when the match finished on the 14th green.

In the battle of the No 4 golfers, Conor Jamison turned 2-up on Mark Patterson (Otago) but Patterson turned the tables on the back nine, winning by a margin of two on the final green.

Kayne Wardell romped home over Peter Rae by an 8 and 7 margin and when Park No 6 Sean Geary was two up on Jason Hughes with three holes to play, the match looked set for a half.

But Hughes won two of the last three holes to snatch a crucial half, putting his team in front.

At Oamaru, North Otago won the top two games. Michael Ormandy came from behind to beat Tyrone Ratahi with one hole to spare.

Otago under-19 champion Kris Rush led all the way, beating Otago's Cameron Grant 3 and 2. At No 5, Paul Velenski gave North Otago its third win at the expense of Luke Murdoch while Thomas Gillan (No 4) and Murray Edgar (No 6) posted wins for Otago A.

In the deciding match, Oamaru greenkeeper Gary Creedy led by one with two holes to play but the situation changed when John McEntee holed a long putt for a birdie two on the 17th.

McEntee then won the final hole to make it a 3-3 team result.
