Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) shot a 1-under-par 72 to hold a three-shot lead going into the second round.
Inia Logan (Cromwell) was the stand-out in the under-15 boys event with a 2-over-par 74. Logan also has a three-shot lead, while Conor Jamison (Chisholm Park) is tied for second in the under-17 event, two shots behind Jordan Loof (Akarana).
Loof carded the lowest score of the day with a 2-under-par 70 in fine and windless conditions.
