Golf: Otago trio in contention

Three Otago juniors are on target to win titles at the South Island age group championships which began at the Levels course in Timaru yesterday.

Laura Hoskin (Arrowtown) shot a 1-under-par 72 to hold a three-shot lead going into the second round.

Inia Logan (Cromwell) was the stand-out in the under-15 boys event with a 2-over-par 74. Logan also has a three-shot lead, while Conor Jamison (Chisholm Park) is tied for second in the under-17 event, two shots behind Jordan Loof (Akarana).

Loof carded the lowest score of the day with a 2-under-par 70 in fine and windless conditions.

Otago did not feature as well in the teams events. The under-19 quintet is 10 shots off the pace, on 307. Canterbury leads on 297, with Aorangi two shots backs and Tasman third on 303.

Canterbury also leads the under-16 event by five shots from Otago, with Tasman a stroke further back.
