Golf: Otago U16 side wins title by a stroke

The Otago under-16 team came from behind to end the Canterbury stranglehold of the South Island title by a single stroke on the Levels course in Timaru yesterday.

Samson Kim (Queenstown) led the way with a one-under-par 71 while his Canterbury counterpart, Connell Kilpatrick, faded with a six over par 78.

Sungwoo Han (Queenstown) carded a 78 while Inia Logan (Cromwell) made 80 and Cody McMullan (Chisholm Park) finished his final nine holes two over for 81.

Canterbury has won the title for the last four years while Otago won in 2003 when the event was for the under-18 golfers.

Otago's uinder-19 team of Chadol Han, Jamie Anstiss, Edward Cochrane (all Queenstown), Joshua Kahukura (Omakau) and Kayne Wardell (Otago) finished in second place to Canterbury but matched the red-and-blacks on 297 in the final round.

Jordan Bakermans (Christchurch) made no race of the individual under-19 title with rounds of 68, 69 and 70 beating Jordan Green (Ashburton) by nine shots.

Under-17 honours went to Jason Yoo (Waitikiri) winning by four shots with rounds of 71, 71 and 75. Vincent Guan (Russley) won the under-15 title by five shots while Hiyi Miya secured the under-13 title.
