Southland dominated the annual Salisbury Cup competition, beating the Otago women 11.5-4.5 in cool and damp conditions on the Queen's Park course in Invercargill on Sunday.
Southland led by two games at lunch but ran away in the afternoon, when Otago managed only a single win and one half.
At the top of the order, Robyn Pullar and Angela Gerkijn posted two wins apiece, at the expense of Laura Hoskin and Jo Hicks-Beach.
The closest contest was between Hoskin and Pullar in the afternoon. Pullar was one ahead playing the final hole and won the 18th for a 2-up result.
Despite the one-sided 6.5 to 1.5 scoreline in the afternoon, the Otago women were competitive and six of the eight matches were decided on the final green.
Only one of those six went Otago's way, No 4 Lisa Joyce, from Dunstan, beating Olivia Frost 2-up. Joyce was the standout for Otago with two wins, having accounted for Kerry Mariu by the same margin in the morning round.
At No 3, Susan Greig emerged unbeaten with a 4 and 2 win over Olivia Frost in the morning and a half with Mariu in the afternoon.
Otago's only other success came from Liz McRae (No 5) and Judy Bevin (No 8), who emerged with a half each from their two matches.
Jamie Anstiss (Otago) posted scores of 74 and 72 in atrocious conditions to win the Ken Reddington Trophy by seven strokes at Balmacewen on Sunday.
Ryan Bellamy (Port Chalmers) finished second with 77 and 76.
The Reddington Trophy goes to the top player in the entire age-group field but Bellamy won the under-23 title.
Anstiss, formerly of Queenstown, also won the under-19 event by 10 shots from Cody McMullan (Chisholm Park), who improved during the day with a 3-over-par 74 in the afternoon.
Ryan Whelan (St Clair) won the under-16 title while Jake Beach gave St Clair the double by winning the under-14 title.
Many of the competitors showed great fortitude in finishing the 36 holes in incessant rain and winds on one of the chilliest golfing days in recent years.
