Giorgio Accorsi has 38,000 reasons to smile.

The 18 handicapper successfully bagged a hole in one at a charity golf day at St Clair Golf Club yesterday, and with it, won a new 2019 Honda HRV SR, worth $38,000.

He knew he hit his tee shot pretty well on the 16th hole. Well, it could not have been better as his five-iron shot was perfection.

The ball bounced on the green, hit the pin and then went in the hole. The hole in one had a prize of the Honda vehicle on a hole sponsored by Southern Honda and Coca-Cola.

Accorsi, who moved to New Zealand from Italy late last year, said he could not believe it when the ball went into the hole.

"It will probably sink in over the next couple of days,'' he said.

His son, Arthur, was also playing at the same time but was not in the same group although he heard all the shouting from the 16th tee.

Accorsi bought a Honda last November shortly after arriving in New Zealand and will now have two at home. It is the first hole in one he has recorded.
