Provincial pennant title makes treble for St Clair

The St Clair men’s Senior A pennant team helped the club score the treble by winning the provincial pennant title with 1.5 points and 7 games at Millbrook yesterday.

The win for St Clair follows the club’s metropolitan title in July, when the team beat Otago Blue on a countback of games, while the club’s champions won the champion of champions title in Balclutha in August with 91 gross Stableford points.

Yesterday’s provincial final was played as a triangular event as, once again, South Otago could not come up with a senior team.

St Clair held a narrow 2 to 1 win over both Arrowtown and North Otago at lunch and romped home with a 4 to 1 win over Arrowtown in the afternoon.

But the team struggled with North Otago in the afternoon after winning only one game for a 3-3 draw.

For St Clair, captain Chris Snow had two wins, while the tail juniors, Jacob Bellamy and Connor Ross, also had two wins.

Arrowtown’s Jared McPadden had two wins and the Central Otago team’s Chris Yallop emerged unbeaten with a win and a half.

North Otago No1 Gary Creedy posted two wins, which augurs well for the Otago masters (over 40) team when Creedy plays at No5  in the national tournament at Chisholm Links in the first week of November.
