The Dunedin Thunder is showing plenty of competitive spirit in the New Zealand Ice Hockey League.

That first win, however?

Just proving a little elusive.

The Thunder dropped to 0-4 on the season with another loss to the Canterbury Red Devils on Saturday night.

A 5-3 loss followed the 4-2 scoreline the previous night.

Canterbury jumped to a 2-0 lead on Saturday but the Thunder quickly replied with goals from Matthew Enright and Dylan Devlin.

The second period was a rollercoaster as Canterbury nudged ahead 3-2, Devlin netted a second to make it 3-3, and the visiting side scored again to lead 4-3 heading into the final period.

Hopes of a Thunder comeback were dashed when former Dunedin favourite Joe Orr added an assist to his pair of goals to seal victory for the Red Devils.

Ben Harford and Noah Gregory scored goals for the Thunder in Friday night’s loss to the Red Devils.

The Thunder’s next games are at home against the West Auckland Admirals on July 29-30.
