Bragging rights and 23 goals were shared by New Zealand's biggest ice rivals over the weekend.
The Dunedin Thunder and the Southern Stampede claimed a win apiece in the doubleheader as part of Queenstown's Winter Festival.
The Thunder won the opening game 7-4 on Saturday, before the stung Stampede rebounded on Sunday night with an 8-4 victory.
The vocal crowd enjoyed some hard hits and some quality goals.
It was 2-2 after one period in the first game and 3-2 to the Thunder after two.
Canadian import JP Bertrand rattled in four goals and goaltender Rick Parry pulled off some excellent saves to lead the Thunder to victory.
The second game also featured a tight first period before the Stampede's young guns Connor Harrison, Gareth Lloyd and Quinn Drake fired up along with imports Adnan Mlivic and Tommy Zizian.
The Stampede also had a lot to thank goalie Aston Brookes for as the Queenstown side rolled to the win, despite a Bertrand hat trick.
The Thunder is playing the Canterbury Red Devils this week in Christchurch, and the Stampede hosts the Swarm in Queenstown.
The Stampede (5-3) is second in the national ice hockey league, while the Thunder (2-5-1) is fourth.
