The Tigers won 44-26 against the South Pacific Raiders in a dominant performance.
Vila Apuula led his team well, directing play to help set up his team-mates, as well as slotting six of his eight conversion attempts.
Hagan Free put on a man-of-the-match performance, making numerous tackles and scoring two tries for his side. Josiah Mani was another to impress, scoring two tries and unsettling the Raiders defence with his attacking style of play.
The Raiders showed a lot of determination.
Going into the second half they were trailing 18-4, but their second half display was much stronger.
Among the scorers was Willie Time, who has been a real asset to the Raiders attack in the early stages of this season.
Time crossed the line to score three tries and give the Raiders some hope.
University secured its first victory, 34-26, over the East Coast Eagles.
The Varsity side was trailing 18-12 at the break, but came out strong with Ro Allen crossing the line to narrow the divide just minutes into the second half. University has been bolstered by some skilled new recruits this season, and it is starting to gel and form strong combinations.
Among the new recruits who have lifted the side are Jong Hoon Lee and Jordan Stuart.
Lee made 19 tackles and busted through opposition tacklers at will. Stuart's direction from halfback created several opportunities and he scored two tries himself with his elusive footwork.
The Eagles side fought hard, and made a charge late in the second half that ensured a tight finish.
Kieran Fitzgerald was key to their efforts. His running from dummy half gave the Eagles momentum and he linked with his outside backs to put them into space.
When the Eagles had ball in hand they looked threatening, and their strong running forwards made University work hard to contain them. Jordan Fuatavai took the ball to the line regularly, and repeatedly broke through the line.
University will gain a lot of confidence from the victory and will be looking to continue its winning ways when it takes on the competition-leading Tigers this Saturday.
The Eagles, on the other hand, will be disappointed to be on the wrong side of the scoreboard again, and will be targeting the Raiders this week to get their campaign on the right track.
